Our location
Carnuntum was the most important ancient Roman legionary camp of the upper Danube frontier, situated at Petronell, 20 miles (32 km) east of Vienna.
During the Marcomanic Wars, Marcus Aurelius wrote part of what would become the Meditations, while camped at Carnuntum
Located near the Danube river it is a great place for walks and short hikes and it contains numerous bicycle routes.
It is also the country's latest wine region to receive official recognition as a Districtus Austriae Controllatus, or DAC

3rd Day
Greek and Roman schools of thought
The Pre-Socratics, Plato, Aristotle, Zeno, Diogenes, Seneca and more follow a brilliant tradition of idea exchange.
4th Day
Introduction to Stoicism
Why is it so relevant? How it started and who are its main figures.
What is ancient about it, what is modern about it and what is psychological about it.

5th Day
Stoic idea of Virtue
And why it's central to the Stoic Philosophy. Is Virtue only related to Reason? And what is the opposite of Virtue. Finally: does it really matter?
6th Day
Introduction to Epicureanism
Vastly unrecognized, this rival school has a lot to offer in terms of understanding the nature of our wants and needs.
7th Day
Philosophical Journaling
Get inspired and take a jab at philosophical journaling in the style of Marcus Aurelius' Meditations.
8th Day, Departure
Breakfast & Farewell
Enjoy our last breakfast together, recap and set our goals for a more philosophical approach to living.

Petronell-Carnuntum is only 25km East of Vienna International Airport and transportation is very easy via direct hourly train

Covid-19 vaccination is a requirement for all participants. All organizers as well as staff is fully vaccinated and the first priority is everybody's safety. Proof of vaccination shall be required before booking.
